In the electrolysis of water , 1. Name the gas collected at anode and cathode . 2. Why is the volume of gas collected at one electrode double than the other ? 3. What would happen if dil.H2SO4 is not added to water?

1) At Cathode :- Hydrogen
At Anode :- Oxygen

2) The gas which is collected in double amount during electrolysis of water is Hydrogen.
This is because water contains two parts of hydrogen element as compared to one part of oxygen element by volume
.
3) Pure water is a bad conductor of electricity, by adding drops of sulphuric acid, we make it a good conductor of electricity.
