Elder citizens or senior citizens tend to have the following characteristics. They are :

retired and thus have lots of time in their hands

unable to adapt to new circumstances

vulnerable to variety of illness and diseases including dementia

different in their ways and ideologies as compared to the current generation living in cities.

Let's assume that they move to new non-native cities. This change brings lots of difficulties for them. Since, they are far away from their friends and relatives, their social circle disappears suddenly.

Fast paced life means that their children or grand children will be living a fast paced life too. Thus, their children devote less and less time for their care. If they live separated from their children for some reasons, the meagre pension they may be getting is too less for a big fast paced cities. All these add to their sadness, lonliness and they end up feeling rejected by the society.
