In the fig diameter AD =12cm and diameter CD =4cm. Observe the fig. And find Area of non shaded portion,seg AD is the daimeter seg AB, seg AC,seg BD & seg CD are the diameter of semicircles. A,B ,C,D are collinear points. Diameter CD =diameter AB .

This question is actually a nested shaded region question, so you have to do that formula twice.

The Big Area is easy, that's pir^2 = pi (12^2) = 144 pi

now you need to subtract out the little shapes.

If you imagine the shaded region as 2 semi cirlces with a radius of 8, then that area is = 64pi.

However, you have to account for the 2 white semi-circles.

144pi - (64pi - 16 pi) = 96 pi
