if pq is parallel to rs then angle q = angle qrs so angle qrs or angle y = 45° (alternate interior angles are equal)

to calculate x we need angle y and angle prq so angle prq = 180-(45+55) = 180-100 = 80°

so angle x = 180-(45+80) = 55

therefore angle x = 55° and angle y= 45°

therefore x+y = 55+45° = 100°
