We know, opposite sides of rectangle are equal.
Here we draw a rectangle ABCD , where AD , BC are opposite sides, AB and CD are opposite sides .
So, AD = BC , and AB = CD

Now, A/C to question ,
AB = 22 , CD = (x + y) ⇒(x + y) = 22 [ ∵ AB = CD ]
AD = 10 , BC = (x - y) ⇒(x - y) = 10 [∵ AD = BC ]

Now, solve both equations
(x + y) + (x - y) = 22 + 10 = 32
⇒ 2x = 32
x = 16 put it (x + y) = 22
so, y = 6 and x = 16
