∠ AED = ∠ABC = 45° 

And these angles are corresponding angles if we take line ED and BC and transversal line AB. As these angles are equal so  

ED || BC 

So, from BPT we get 

AE/ED = AB/BC 

= b/z = b+c/a 

= x/b = a/b+c 

x = ab/b+c
