Side of a square, a=14cm

Radius of each circle, r= 7/2

Area of the shaded portion = Area of a square - 4 × Area of a circle

= a^2 - 4 (pie r^2)

= 14×14−4× 22/7 * 7/2 * 7/2

= 196−154

∴ Area of the shaded portion =42cm ^2
