(The diagram in the question is given below)

Given :

The side length of the square = r

To Find :

The value of Q/q = ?

Solution :

  • The net force on Q is due to the charges present on the other vertices of the square and the value of net force is zero
  • Force due to charge q - Force due to charge Q = 0
  • Force due to charge q = Force due to charge Q

            \sqrt{(\frac{kqQ}{r^{2} }) ^{2}+ \frac{kqQ}{r^{2} }) ^{2} }=\frac{kQQ}{(\sqrt{2} r)^{2} }

            \sqrt{2(\frac{kQq}{r^{2} } )^{2}} = {\frac{kQQ}{(\sqrt{2r})^{2} } }

            2\sqrt{2}Qq = Q^{2}

            \frac{Q}{q} =2\sqrt{2}

The value of Q/q is 2√2
