In the​ figure, two poles are 15 m and 30 m high. A cable 16 m long joins the tops of the poles. Find the distance between the poles.

30 - 15 = 15m


Find the distance:

Given the length joining the two point is 16m.We can use Pythagoras' Theorem to find the distance:

a² + b² = c²

a² + 15² = 16²

a² = 16² - 15²

a² = 256 - 225

a² = 31

a = √31

a = 5.6 m


Answer: The distance is 5.6 m
