in the figure W is a circle and ABC is a right any traingle with right angle at A. Ba and BD are tangents to the circle W at A and D. Suppose the side AC interests W at E and CE=3, CD=6,then the length of the tangent BD is?

by secant properties of circle,

DC²=EC*CA

6²=3*CA

CA=12 units

let BD=x

so,BA=BD=x (tangents drawn from external points are equal)

now,by Pythagoras theorem,

BA²+CA²=BC²

x²+12²=(x+6)²

12x+36=144

x=9 units

so,BD=9 units
