In the following figure, the radius of the circle is 10 cm and the length of the chord PQ is 16 cm.

M is the mid point of the chord PQ . What is the length of MN?​

draw a perpendicular from o to m making 90 angle on m

and by the theorem : the line from centre bisect the chord .

so pm = qm = 8

in triangle omq

by PGT

oq^2 = qm^2 + om ^2

100 = 64 + om^2

36 =om^2

om =6

now we know that om + mn = on

and on = 10 as it is radius

so 6 +mn = 10

mn = 10 -6

mn = 4
