In the following table are given the mass no: and atomic no: of certain elements -

ELEMENT A B C D E F G H

Mass no: 2 3 3 6 9 11 19 23

Atomic no: 1 1 2 3 4 5 9 11

i)Which atom will form single positively charged ion?
ii)Which is the atom of an inert gas ?
iii)Which will form a negatively charged ion ?

#For A & B :
as the atomic no is same these are called isotopes .
EC (K,L,M,N ) = 1(K)
#For C :
EC : 2(K).
it has its first orbit /shell completely filled hence treated as Inert gas.
#For D:
EC : 2(K),1(L).
It can lose one electron to gain inert gas configuration . hence it form Singly positively charged ion.
# For E :
EC :2(K),2(L).
it can lose 2 electrons to gain stable inert gas configuration . hence it form doubly charged positive ion.
#for F:
EC : 2(K),3(L).
obviously it can form triply positively charged ion.
#for G:
EC: 2(K),7(L).
it can readily accept an electron to attain inert gas configuration. hence it form singly charged negative ion.
#For H:
EC: 2(K),8(L),1(M).
it can readily lose one electron to attain stable inert gas configuration. hence it forms singly positively charged ion.
