In the given figure the resistance is in parallel form.

So, firstly we would find the resistance in upper line of the parallel circuit.

            R₁=10 Ω + X

resistance in lower line,

           R₂=25Ω + 75Ω

           R₂=100Ω

we know that resistance in a parallel circuit is

          1/R = 1/R₁ + 1/R₂

      ∵, R=20Ω, R₁=10Ω + X and R₂=100Ω\

        \frac{1}{20}=\frac{1}{10+ X}+\frac{1}{100}\\\\   \frac{1}{20} =\frac{100+10+X}{1000+100X}\\

          1000 + 100X =2000+200+X

          1000 + 99X =2200

          99X=2200-1000

          99X=1200

          X=1200/99

         X=12.12Ω
