In the given figure a hemisphere is surmounted by a conical block of wood . The diameter of their bases is 6cm each and the slant height is 5 cm . Find(i) height. (ii)the volume.

Now observe one side of cone...

U will know...it is a right angled triangle

By pythagoras theorem

L2 = b2 + h2

5×5 = 3×3 +h2

Height = 4cm.

Volume of solid

Vol. Of cone + vol.of hemisphere

1/3×3.14×r×r×h + 2/3×3.14×r×r×r

Substitute r = 3 and h= 4

U will get the answer.
