AD is the altitude of BC.

BC = 6cm. (given)

==> BD = CD = 3cm (half of BC)

a² + b² = c² (Pythagorean theorem)

Here,

a = CD = 3cm

b = AD = x

c = AC = 5cm

b² = c² - a²

b² = 5² - 3²

b² = 25 - 9

b² = 16

b = √16

b = 4cm (AD = 4cm)

Therefore the length of AD = 4cm

Hope it helps!
