The answer is in the question...Hydrogen gas is being prepared so the apparatus has to be airtight so as to prevent the release the hydrogen gas prepared to go into the atmosphere.... Mark my ansewer as the brainliest!!

The reaction between Zinc and Acid is exothermic and hence heat is produced. So the hydrogen generated, if exposed to air while the exothermic reaction takes place, can potentially explode.
