shamnath is a greedy person. he is ashamed of introducing his mother to his guests as he thinks that she will ruin his idea of promotion and keeps on torchering his mother by doing this and that to go here and there and not to sleep, etc. while on the other hand shamnath's mother only wishes good future for her son. she sold her jewellery for shamnath's education and follows the instructions given by shamnath when the guests arrived and is also ready to make the tablecloth at the end even though she is old and cannot see properly just bcze her son says that if she does so then he might get promoted.
