There is a legend behind it. One day Parshuram went to pay visit to Lord Shiva. Parshuram is considered an avatar of Vishnu. However, Ganesha did not let him meet his father. Angered at the gesture, Parshuram flung his axe at Ganesha; the axe had been gifted to Parshuram by Shiva. So, out of respect, Ganesha allowed himself to be struck by the axe. This is how Ganesha's tusk was broken.

★Lord Ganesha is one of the most worshipped deities in the Hindu Mythology . In the picture of Lord Ganesha, we see that his right tusk is broken . So, according to myths and fantasies , there are two stories behind this.

→Related to Mahabharata ←
--------------------------------------

=> As per this tale , The sage Ved Vyasa asked Lord Ganesha to pen down the epic as dictated to him . So , Ganesha agreed to write it down . But he laid the condition that it should be written without any interruptions. In order to add to it , Vyasa ji told him that he must understand what he was writing side by side.

=> Thus, Ganesha began to write it down as dictated . But suddenly in the midst of it , his feather pen broke . Now , in order to keep his words - he broke one of his tusk and started writing with it . Thus, according to this tale , it was in order to keep his words of writing the epic uninterrupted that he himself broke his Tusk . His act reflects his level of patience and sacrifice .
