He is surrounded by his friends Salarino and Salanio who are trying their best to make Antonio merry. During their trying session to make Antonio happy and in the better mode, Salarino says that he is sad because his mind that are tossing on the sea with the ships. Antonio is worried that what will happen to his ships as they travel to all over the world with the spices to the diamonds buying and selling things. Salarino further adds that if he had those cargo ships he would have pluck a strand of leaf to know in what direction the wind is blowing.
