the caskets determine the intelligence of suitors. Prince of Morocco didn't thought anything before choosing the gold casket. only reason for choosing so was that it will be the best to hold the picture of Portia. Prince of Aragon was arrogant that's why he read the caption on the silver casket that the one who opens me will get what he deserve and and thought that he deserves the best and chose the silver casket. however Bassanio didn't did like this and thought before choosing the casket and chose the right casket i.e. lead one and thus proved to be the best deserving Portia
