The allegorical poem conveys a strong message on how in spite of being exceptionally talented, if one does not have self-confidence then they will not be able to succeed. The nightingale was innately gifted but due to the lack of self-esteem and conviction in her own talents, she dominated upon the frog, an egotistical monstrosity, who lived in the bog and boasted about himself. The frog, however was cunning and manipulative, so he understood the exact pressure points where the nightingale would break down. Her innocence proves to have fatal consequences for herself. The frog's criticism is motivated by his own agenda but the nightingale did not know that and doubted her own qualities.
