The act of killing the snake according to the poet is a cowardly act. He wishes the snake would come back so that he could know and understand one of the'lords of the life. He is full of guilt. He wants to make amends for his action of throwing the log at the snake which he thinks he should not have done. He is filled with grief and remorse.
