In poem snake, the poet says that he has something to expiate bcs, he feel regreted for his deed that he hurted the snake which deserved respect by thowing a log over it. Realizing that it was the voice of education which persuaded him to do so, he thinks of making an alteration in the educational values. Hence it is education that he has to expiate

the poet says this because he did a wrong act. His behavior with the snake was unjustified the snake had done him no harm and he had no right to attack it with no reason.
