Question

In the poem there is a line which states that 'its almost as many years as that girl lived '..........in the summary of the poem it is stated that its been 12 years since the death of the poet 's mother .....this means that the mother died at the age of 12............but then in the second stanza it is stated that after 20 -30 years the mother is laughing at her photograph taken at beach......so if she died at the age of 12 then how come she became a mother and laugh at the photograph after 20 - 30 years??????

Read the poem again Its saying the one who is narrating the poem is her daughter .she says that the sea holiday was her past and her smile in snapshot was her daughter's happy moments. . ....
