PAST AND PRESENT
I remember, I remember
The house where I was born,
The little window where the sun
Came peeping in at morn;
He never came a wink too soon
Nor bought too long a day;
But now, I often wish the night
Had borne my breath away.
I remember, I remember
The roses, red and white,
The violets, and the lily-cups--
Those flowers made of light!
The lilacs where the robin built,
And where my brother set
The laburnum on his birthday,--
The tree is living yet!
I remember, I remember
Where I was used to swing,
And throught the air must rush as fresh
To swallows on the wing;
My spirit flew in feathers then
That is so heavy now,
And summer pools could hardly cool
The fever on my brow.
I remember, I remember
The fir frees dark and high;
I used to think their slender tops
Were close against the sky:
It was a childish ignorance,
But now 'tis little joy
To know I'm farther off from Heaven
Than when I was a boy.
In this poem i remember i remember the poet remember every single detail of his house in which he was born and he thinks about his past which he prefers more than being grown up.
He remembers the windows in which sunlight used to come in the morning which never came too soon. He still remembers red and white roses, violets and buttercups which was planted in the garden of his old home. He remembers about the laburnum tree which was set by his brother on his birthday and which is still living. He remember he place where he used to swing which was a heavenly feeling since he felt his spirit floating like a feather but alas it is so heavy now . And now even cool pool water is not sufficient to cool his fever. He still remember the dark and high fir trees which he thought to be reaching the sky. But now as a grown up he knows that it is so childish, but he misses his childhoot but he also knows that it is not possible.
