In the process of using a bow and arrow , why do we have to pull the arrow backwards by using a thread or rubber?

It's because we need to create a potential energy by pulling it backwards . THEN when we release the rubber the potential energy to kinetic energy this shooting the arrow in the required direction :-)

So that the sufficient force can be applied to the bow, just imagine that when we pull something backward by applying force by using any rubber material, it forcefully moves to the opposite direction.
