Cl2 + 2HBr = 2HCl + Br2

This is a redox reaction.

Cl2 to HCl is reduction process. Here oxidation state of Cl become zero to -1, i.e oxidation state decreased.

HBr to Br2 is oxidation process. Here oxidation state of Br become -1 to zero, i.e. oxidation state increased.

The oxidant is Cl2 because its reduced itself and oxidise Br- ti Br2.

Answer:

Cl2 + 2HBr = 2HCl+ Br2

This can take place by displacing Br as Cl2 is more reactive

Oxidation number changes.
