The Ruskin Bond Book, a Face in the dark and other Hauntings, is set in a fictional version of the Indian Hill station Simla and it's surroundings. It refers to the school as the 'Eaton of the East' probably in reference to the real St. Paul's school in Darjeeling, India which is 150 years old and was established by the British. Today is still actually called the 'Eaton of the East' and follows a similar educational pattern to classic British public schools.
Eaton College in the UK is known as the Elite school which has seen alumni's such as international statesmen and royal families and hence, it's name is synonymous with quality elite education

The story 'The Face in the Dark' by Ruskin Bond is set in the hills of Shimla and the school in the mention is Bishop Cotton School in Shimla. There was a trail in the forest which could be used by pedestrians to and fro. It was this trail that the author cites in his story.

BCS was called 'Eton of the East' as the comparison comes from Eton College in Eton in the South-central England. Eton College was established in 1440 and enjoyed the status of the elite public school. BCS has been a famous school providing education on the pattern of British public school and hence the comparison.
