Answer:

The angle of deviation is minimum when the path of light ray through the prism is symmetrical. i.e., angle of incidence = angle of emergence and path of ray within the prism is parallel to the base of the prism.

Answer:

The prism is placed in the minimum deviation position to make the spectrum because :

  • the angle of deviation is minimum when the path through which the light ray travels is symmetrical.
  • hence the angle of incidence will be equal to the angle of emergence and hence the path of that ray within the prism
  • As a result the path of the ray that is emerged is then parallel to the base of the prism.

Prism :

  • It is defined as a polyhedron with two polygonal faces that are lying in the parallel planes along with the other faces of the parallelogram.
  • It is also a kind of transparent body which is bounded by planes that are non parallel and hence it is used to disperse the beam of the light through the prism
