In the triangle ABC, angle B is equal to 90° and BD is perpendicular to the AC .IfAB is equal to 8 cm AD is equal to 4 cm find the length of CD

First using pythagoras theorem :

BD² + AD² = AB²

BD² = 64 - 16 = 48

Let CD be x and CB be y

Thus again using pythagoras theorem but in triangle DBC

y²=x²+48.....................(1)

Now again pythagoras comes here XD

Using big triangle now :

ABC

AB²+BC²=AC²

AC= x+4

Thus

(x+4)² = 64 + y²

x²-y²+8x=48

Using (1)

x²-(x²+48) + 8x = 48

Then ,

8x = 48+48

8x = 96

x=12

x= CD = 12 cm
