Question - In this question, α stands for ‘equal to’; β for ‘greater than’; γ for ‘less than’ and δ for ‘not equal to’.

Q1. If 6x α 5y and 2y β 3z, then

(a) 2x β 3z

(b) 4x β 5z

(c) 2x γ z

(d) 4x α 3z

Given - 6x α 5y and 2y β 3z

Find - Correct option from the given choices.

Solution - Decoding the signs used in question :

6x = 5y : equation 1

2y > 3z : equation 2

Now, as per equation 1, y = 6x/5

Keeping the value of y in equation 2 -

2*(6x/5) > 3z

12x/5 > 3z

Dividing both the sides by 3 we get :

4x/5 > z

4x > 5z

Since β stands for greater than, the sign in the answer will be replaced by β.

Hence, the correct answer is (b) 4x β 5z.
