This beautiful story by T S Arthur highlights the agony of an orphan , helpless child who is physically disabled. In the story, the orphan child Maggie was not initially taken by anyone before Joe Thompson arrived. She knocked at many doors but none opened to take her in as she was hopelessly diseased. Her two siblings were taken by people who would make them work and take care of them but none wanted to take Maggie as she was handicapped and was not of much work. Thus the author targets the people who discriminated against the handicapped .

Answer:In the story "An Angel in Disguise", Arthur seems to target the alcoholics and those who discriminate against handicapped and disabled person. He conveys his idea by depicting the story of a poor woman who falls upon her own threshold leaving her children's to fend for themselves. The towns people take port on the two eldest children and they are been taken away by two families, but the youngest Maggie the crippled child is lest alone because no want to deal with her disability. A man named Joe Thompson takes pity on her and decideds to take her to his house for that night. He plans to leave her in the poorhouse the next day Because he know that her wife would not approve of her. The same thing happen when Joe brings her in his arms, his wife is enraged that he has brought a 'sick brat' into her house. Joe the mouthpiece of the writer begs his wife to treat her kindly. He refers to Bible in which the Saviour has taught his disciples to love children.
