AB : AC = 2 : 1

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

In Δ  ABC, AD is the internal bisector of angle A.

BD = 5 cm, BC = 7.5 cm

To find:

AB : AC = ?

Solution:

BD + DC = BC

5 + DC = 7.5                    [given]

DC = 7.5 - 5

DC = 2.5                                   [1]

Now by internal bisector property,

\frac{AB}{AC} =\frac{BD}{DC}

\frac{AB}{AC} =\frac{5}{2.5}                      [from 1]

\frac{AB}{AC} =\frac{2}{1}

AB : AC = 2 : 1
