In triangle ABC,

DB= AB-AD

= 6.8 - 1.7

=5.1 cm

Since, DE is parallel to BC,

AD/DB = AE/EC

= AD/DB = AE/AC-AE

= 1.7/5.1 = AE/9-AE

= 1.7 (9 - AE) = 1.5 AE

= 15.3 - 1.7AE = 1.5 AE

= 15.3 = 1.5AE + 1.7AE

=15.3 = 3.2AE

AE = 15.3/ 3.2

AE= 4.7 cm
