In triangle PQR, if PM is it’s median and the area of the given triangle is 24 cm² then the area of the triangle PQM is 12 cm².

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that,

PM is the median of ∆PQR.

And,

Area of triangle PQR = 24 cm²

We can also write from the figure attached below,

Area of ∆PQR = Area of ∆PQM + Area of ∆PRM …… (i)

From one of the properties of the median of the triangle we know that median divides the triangle into two triangles of the equal-area i.e.,

Area of ∆PQM = Area of ∆PRM ….. (ii)

Now, from eq. (i) & (ii), we get

Area of ∆PQR = 2 * [Area of ∆PQM]

⇒ 24 = 2 * [Area of ∆PQM]

⇒ Area of ∆PQM = 24 / 2

Area of ∆PQM = 12 cm²

Thus, the area of the triangle PQM is 12 cm².
