Given ;

  • A(-4,7)
  • B(3,-7)

given that y-axis divides the line in particular ratio

let the ratio be m:n

we know that for any point on the y-axis => x-coordinate = 0

Thus by using section formula;

  • Thus by using section formula;x = (mx2 + nx1)/m+n

  • 0 = 3m - 4n/m+n
  • 0 = 3m - 4n
  • 3m = 4n
  • m/n = 4/3

Thus y-axis divides the line in the ratio m:n = 4:3
