Concept:

Ratio is the comparison between two mathematical quantities.

We have to take the unknown mathematical quantities by variables and form a suitable equation in two variables to find the required.

Given:

Cost of per kg peas is Rs 16 and Cost of per kg soybean is Rs 25.

Find:

The ratio of the pea and soybean to obtain a mixture with cost Rs 19.50 per kg.

Solution:

Let the required quantity of peas be x and soybean be y.

Now we have to find the suitable value of x:y to fulfill the given condition.

So cost of x kg peas is = 16x

cost of y kg soybean is = 25y

The total cost of the mixture = 16x+25y

The amount of total mix = x+y

According to condition the cost should be = 19.50 (x+y)

So,

16x+25y = 19.50(x+y)

16x+25y = 19.5x+19.5y

19.5x-16x = 25y-19.5y

3.5x = 5.5y

x/y = 5.5/3.5 = 55/35 = 11/7

Therefore, x:y = 11:7

Hence the required ratio of peas and soybean is 11:7 to obtain a mix of Rs 19.50.
