Society must be protected from people like him. It sounds ironic because she herself was a thief and had come for the same purpose for which Horace was there in the house.✨✨

This chapter gives an important message about a thief who robbed another thief at work . The statement "society must be protected form men like you " is ironical because the lady herself was a thief who had come to the house for the same purpose for which horace had.

She tried to trick him by telling him she would make a noise if he would hurt him . By the end of lesson it is clearly understood that Horace himself being a thief was tricked by another. Horace landed up in a prison as  assistant librarian in the prison. Therefore, in my opinion it is very appropriate to say that there lies honour among thieves
