In what way anomalous behaviour of water is advantages to aquatic animals ???

kvnmurty: Anomalous behaviour of water is that it expands on solidifying. So the density of ice is less than that of water. So ice floats. Water freezes due to the temperatures in the atmosphere above water level goes below 0.
Now since cooling starts from above, ice forms on the top. Since ice is floating always, it covers the water in liquid form. Ice is not a very good conductor of heat. So water underneath ice remains a little warmer than outside the water body.
kvnmurty: If ice were denser than water, then as soon as the top layer of a pond freezes, it will sink to the bottom and the next layer of water would freeze quickly, as it is exposed to the outside cold. In this case, the animals would be stuck among ice layers.
kvnmurty: Thus in the real case, water at the bottom of the oceans, ponds, seas remains in liquid form during the winter. Only the top few meters perhaps freezes.

Water's anomalous behaviour is an advantage to aquatic animals because of its freezing nature. It starts freezing from top to bottom through which aquatic animals could survive.
Hope it helps and pls mark as the best answer. :-)

sameer5: pls some more information plss
sameer5: because in my test its 8 marks answer
HappyHuman: Actually the answer is this.So you just elaborate this answer and write..=) =)

Waters anomalous behavior is that it freezes at 0⁰ degree but starts to freeze from top and under ice it is liquid. So the aquatic animals survives in it and they don't freeze in it.
