Monocytes eat up the foreign particles that are present in the body and helps us to fight the pathogens.

EXPLANATION:

  • The cell is functional unit of life and it is the structure that is vital for our existence, so it becomes an easy target for bacteria and microorganisms which tends to feed on other cells they are called pathogens.
  • To protect our body from these pathogens our body has the immune system. It is of two types innate or cellular systems. Innate immunity is what we are born with and cellular immunity is provided to us by a group of cells called White Blood Cells.
  • Monocytes are a type of WBC that moves about in a body searching for any harmful or foreign particles and when they detect one they eat up those pathogens and hence, prevent us from getting affected by it and thus provides us cellular barrier.
