In a displacement reaction only one element is displaced by other, whereas in double displacement reaction both elements displace each other from their salt solution It's also called a precipitate reaction as one precipitate is also formed:
Displacement:
2K + Na₂SO₄------------> K₂SO₄ + 2Na
Double displacement:
Na₂SO₄ + BaCl₂----------> 2NaCl + BaSO₄ ( BaSO₄ is white precipitate)
