this question caused me to realize that Macbeth, Hamlet, Julius Caesar, Romeo and Juliet- in fact most of Shakespeare’s historical plays and tragedies- are linked to political influences.
In the specific case of Macbeth, at the start of the play he has only the ambition to be a loyal warrior to his King.
He soon succumbs to the allure of ultimate political power- he works to be King. And he succeeds. After which he self-destructs.
By contrast, Julius Caesar is more strongly political. There are more incidents of shifting loyalties, suspicion, ulterior motivation, distrust and intrigue going on.
