Answer:

The ways in which the forest was harmed by the colonial government are:

  • The British considered forests as nature which must be brought under civilization to enhance the income of the state. Therefore, large tracts of timber lands were cleared for cultivating the land.
  • Due to high demand, timbers in Britain were fading. This created a problem for the British Royal cortege as wood was needed to make vessels. The British started exploring Indian timbers on a massive scale.
  • Forests were destroyed to supply slumberers for railroads and to further expand areas under railroads.
  • The social government allowed timbers as unproductive and hence cleared them for erecting heads and laying down metropolises.
  • Cash crops were anticipated to bring huge earnings. So large areas of natural timbers were cleared to make way for tea, coffee and rubber colonies.
