Martin Luther was a German monk and teacher of theology. He led a strict life but was worried about sin.

Luther was considered to be a rather crude man.

He had no trouble with talking about taking up arms and using violence against those who opposed him. He also used bad language to combat those he disagreed with.

This was proved when he showed up his authority over the Jews. When they refused to accept his invitation to the church, he verbally abused them.

  • Luther was viewed as a fairly ungracious individual.
  • He had no qualms about advocating arming oneself and employing force against people who disagreed with him.
  • He frequently criticized individuals with whom he disagreed by using foul language.
  • This was demonstrated when he displayed his dominance over the Jews.

The two statements are like:

  • The first argument is that moral sins are caused by people abusing their freedom.
  • This viewpoint has a lot of weight and cannot be readily disregarded.
  • However, because of human freedom, many facets of evil, including moral evil, remain unexplained.
  • Another perspective interprets physical problems as a form of retribution for moral misdeeds.
  • Such an opinion is based on the retribution concept.
  • This perspective is based on the ancient Deuteronomic notion that prosperity follows righteousness and piety but hardship follows sin.
  • There are traces of this hypothesis dating back to the time of Jesus.
