Cinemas have always been popular medium in influencing thinking of the people as it has always attracted people, adults and children alike. Cinema can affect our views in the following ways:

1. It can make us aware of the social evils existing in the society and can change our attitude against the. Many films have highlighted the plight of women focussing on evils like sati, child marriage etc.

2. Cinema reflects the social, political and economic realities of our lives and society and can compel people to act.

3. Many cinemas are rich in our culture and history and has made people aware about our cultural heritage and rich past. For example, movies like Gandhi,Lagaan,Mangal Pandey - The uprising in creating a sense of history.

4. Movies have been a great a deal of inspiration and encouragement for the youth. The recent example is that of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Chak De have been very influential.

5. Cinema has been agents of change and has contributed in mass movements. For example with movies like Rang De Basanti Munna bhai, people realized that they have power to change and make government responsive. Anna Hazare  movement against corruption with active participation of the people can be seen in this context.

Though movies also contribute to violence, and certain material which should not reach children but for that government does exercise censorship and edit portions which are not suitable for popular viewing.
