Answer: Hindustan was a term used by the Mughals to indicate the region by the river Indus. All the people living by the river were know known as Hindus. Now Hinduism has turned into a religion but actually the Hindu religions original name is Sanatan Dharm. Though Hindustan is still used to describe India but the words from which it had been derived had seen changes in its meaning.

This is the way the meaning of the term Hindustan as changed over time.
