In the Constitution under Article 1 we see that we see that it clearly states that India shall be a Union of the states. The territory shall thus consist of the union terrioties, the territories of the state and any other sort of territory which might be acquired.

But it was clearly mentioned by Dr B.R Ambedkar while submitting the draft constitution that actually the term Union was used in order to gain certain advantages.
