The word gitanjali is composed from "geet", song, and "anjali", offering, and thus means – "An offering of songs"; but the word for offering, anjali, has a strong devotional connotation, so the title may also be interpreted as "prayer offering of song".

I had read it some time back and it’s actually hard to describe what it is about. However, off-late I realize that it tries to encompass the divine and its relation with us - the mortals but even in doing that there is a vast variation in the thought process which could be treated as vagaries of mysticism but it would be more apt to describe it as complex interactions between mortals and divine to the extent that they merge into each other. In that sense, its a masterpiece
