In what ways was the administration of the company different from that of the Indian rulers ?

Before the Britishers came into the scene , the Indian territories were divided into kingdoms ruled by different rulers . There was no centralised administration for the country . Whereas , the British territories broadly divided into administrative units called Precidencies . There were 3 Precidencies Bengal , Madras and Bombay. Each ruled by a governor and the supereme head of the administration was governor - general , In 1772 A system of justice was established. In India the law was interepted by Pandits and Maulvies for the European district collector who presided over the civil courts . The criminal courts were still under Mufti and Quazi under the supervision of collector . The principle figures in the Indian district was the collector . His main job was to collect taxes and revenue.

Governor ruled the administrative units.

Governor-General was the head of the state.

The introduction of several acts:

1.Regulating Act

2.Indian Council Acts

3.Montague-Chelmsford Reforms

Indian Rulers Administration

Indian rulers divided the territories into district, pargana, tehsil and parishad.

Zamindar or Peasants were responsible for their units.

King or Nawab was the head of the state.

Indian rulers brought no such acts but used to rule with their farmans..
