The correct answer in the question is option B) .  

Option A is incorrect as x and y are angles on the same side of the transversal(co interior angles), so there is no proof that they are necessarily equal, since the angles should only be equal to 90 degrees for them to be equal, and that is not guaranteed in the picture.  

Option C is incorrect as they are part of the same angle and thus there is no guarantee that they are equal, as only in some parallelograms like a rectangle the angles bisect each other equally.  

Option D is incorrect as though the angles are alternate interior angles, the lines are not parallel, thus the alternate interior angles are not equal.  

However,  

Option B is correct as the lines are parallel and the angles are alternate interior angles, which are equal. Thus, x=y in option B.
